What is a keychain? A keychain is an encrypted container that securely stores your account names and passwords for your Mac, apps, servers, and websites, and confidential information, such as credit card numbers or bank account PIN numbers. When you access a website, email account, network server, or other password-protected item, you can choose to save the password in your keychain so you don’t have to remember or enter the password each time. Each user on a Mac has a login keychain. The password for your login keychain matches the password you use to log in to your Mac. If an administrator on your Mac resets your login password, you’ll need to reset your login keychain password. ICloud Keychain If you use iCloud, you can have iCloud Keychain securely store your Safari website user names and passwords, credit card information used online, Wi-Fi network information, and more. ICloud Keychain also stores login information for the accounts you use in Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Messages—and in social media accounts like Facebook or Twitter—so they’re available on all your devices.. Also why does the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences displays the full amount of the drive but actually displays the 'free' space available for backups per my limitation at the router level? On the second issue regarding the allocated space for Time Machine I originally set it up to use all the 1 TB space because I wasn't sure that it would work to use it as well for putting files there. Only after toying with the settings I chose to limit the space for Time Machine without partitioning my drive. Now on the Time Machine preferences it says that 256 GB are free from 999GB for backups. Now when I subtract that amount from the 300GB gives me the 58GB already on the drive but I'm aback as to why the Time Machine preferences still displays the full capacity of the drive since momentarily when I had done the change it only displayed the 300GB limit but on a subsequent reboot came back with 999GB capacity.
